Now that you have a teen driver and all of the elements that go with it, is your teen prepared in the event of a flat tire? While this can be unsettling, getting them prepared and ready will cut down on stress and apprehension of what to do.

Give them the experience: With the car parked in the driveway, you can take your teen through the entire process of taking off the flat tire and putting on the donut. Make sure they know tips about things like loosening the lug nuts. Each car is different, so do the mock tire change on the car they drive most.

Teach Warning Signs: Most cars these days have a tire pressure monitor. Show your teens where the alert is, and what it might look like if it goes off. Explain to the what noise or motions the car might start to make if the tire becomes flat.

Tools for a Flat: Make sure your teen's car is stocked with all the tools they might need if they have a flat. Show them where everything thing is, the spare tire, the car jack, etc. You may also want to stock their car with warning cones and other helpful items.

Teach safety: A flat tire is bound to happen to your teen at some point. Imagine having your first flat tire and not knowing what to do! Sit them down and go through those steps that include where to pull over, and what to do next.
